The
Information Systems Security Association (ISSA)® is a not-for-profit international
organization of information security professionals and practitioners. It provides
education forums, publications and peer interaction opportunities that enhance
the knowledge, skill and professional growth of its members.
The
SANS (SysAdmin, Audit, Network, Security) Institute is a research and education
organization well respected by security professionals. It provides unbiased
information and up to date news on all security issues. Training classes by
SANS are well sought after. Its GIAC (Global Information Assurance Certification)
program carries one of the highest prestige in the industry.
CERT®
Coordination Center (CERT/CC) is a federally funded research centser providing
unbiased information on current information security issues and incidents. You
can find vulnerabilities for various platforms and best security practice.
CIAC
has been providing the U.S. Department of Energy with incident response, reporting,
and tracking, along with other computer security support since 1989.
VulnWatch
is a community web site for security researchers and product vendors to submit
vulnerabilities and to alert the Internet community of security issues that
may effect them. It started out for UNIX systems only and recently started tracking
windows too.
The
Computer Security Division (CSD) is one of eight divisions within NIST's
Information Technology Laboratory.
Its missions are to raise awareness and research IT vulnerabilities, develop
metrics to validate systems, and to establish minimum security requirements
for Federal systems. Recently, it published security
standards for Windows 2000 server and plans to issue similar papers for
other systems and platforms.
